Commonly known as the Peruvian apple cactus, the Cereus Peruvianus Plant is a large, tall, and thorny cactus native to South America. It is widely grown as an ornamental plant and has a range of other uses. The Cereus Peruvianus Plant is often used in culinary creations, while the inner cane-like wood of the plant is also used in wattle and daub construction.

The Cereus Peruvianus features cylindrical grey-green or bluish-green stems that can grow up to ten meters high. This is a self-supporting plant with stems reaching up to twenty centimeters in diameter. When supported, the stems will grow even taller; the record is 110 feet. This mighty plant can be found at SDM College of Dental Sciences in Dharwad, India, and is the tallest cactus plant in the world.

Like most other types of cacti, this plant boasts needle-like thorns, which can grow up to five centimeters long. The plant also produces large cream-colored flowers during the growing season. You need to be vigilant if you want to see the flowers open because they bloom at night and only last for a single night; the flowers fade away as soon as the sun rises.

The Cereus Peruvianus also produces sweet fruit, which ranges in color from yellow to violet-red. The flesh of the fruit is white and edible. The fruit contains small crunchy seeds, which are also edible.
